The North Carolina Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (NCBOESLPA) is aware of the concerns raised by recent revisions to the Medicare Benefit Policy Manual regarding the definition of a qualified speech-language pathologist (SLP).
As a licensing board established under North Carolina state statute, NCBOESLPA does not have authority over reimbursement matters, including Medicare policies. However, we recognize the potential impact of these changes on our licensees and are actively monitoring the situation in communication with relevant organizations.
We strongly encourage licensees to consult directly with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) or their billing departments to obtain the most current and accurate information regarding reimbursement policies.
Additionally, both the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and the North Carolina Speech, Hearing & Language Association (NCSHLA) have shared updates and provided ways for professionals to engage in advocacy efforts. Please see the links below for more information.
