Notice to SLP-Assistant Supervisors

April 16, 2020

*This accommodation is being made to assist SLP-Assistants and their supervisors during the COVID-19 crisis in order to assist in meeting the public need of access to care.

In order to assist with these special circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 crisis, the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Speech and Language Pathologists and Audiologist has temporarily enacted the following:

The policy requiring that supervisors be within 50 miles of the SLP-Assistant during the workday will be temporarily relaxed during the period of the COVID-19 crisis. The same level and standard of care of direct supervision will apply as required by NCAC 64. 1003(e)(1)(2) and (6). Either the SLP-Assistant or the Supervisor must be physically located in North Carolina. If either the licensee or the SLP-Assistant is located in another state, the supervising licensee must contact the other state’s licensure board to determine whether or not they or the SLP-Assistant are permitted to provide services to North Carolina patients via telepractice while located in that state.
