Expired License

“Expired” means the license is not active anymore. This is not derogatory or bad, just not in use anymore. For licenses with derogatory actions on their license we use “Disciplinary Action”.

• You can make your license “Expired” in your portal. To do this log in to your portal, then select “Status Change Request” from the menu list on the left after logging in.
• You can mail in your renewal notice and write that you do not want to renew on it.
• You can email Sergei Maxfield and let him know you want to move your license to “Expired” status.

1. After this thirty day grace period the delinquent fee is applied ($25).
2. To renew a license that is expired the licensee will need to supply the renewal form, renewal fee, delinquent fee, and a statement of services.
3. If it has been less than ninety-days you will need to submit evidence of thirty (30) hours of your most recently completed CE. The documentation must be official.
4. Statement of Services: The licensee will inform the Board if they have/have not been providing services in the state of NC with an expired NC license. This statement can be emailed to Sergei Maxfield. It can also be written and sent with your renewal form and payment to NCBOESLPA, PO Box 16885, Greensboro, NC 27416-0885.

If a licensee is delinquent two or more times in five years, the renewal is taken to the monthly board meeting for approval before the license will be renewed. You will receive a courtesy renewal notice mailed to the address on file with the Board, and you will be notified when your license is expired and will be suspended for non-renewal. It is the responsibility of the licensee to ensure the Board has your up-to-date contact information so you may receive correspondence from the Board office. Notices are sent as a courtesy it is the responsibility of the licensee to ensure their license is renewed in a timely manner to ensure there is no lapse of licensure. If you are unsure of your licenses expiration date give the office a call.

§ 90-299. Licensee to notify Board of place of practice. (a) A person who holds a license shall notify the Board in writing of the address of the place or places where he engages or intends to engage in the practice of speech and language pathology or audiology. (b) The Board shall keep a record of the places of practice of licensees. (c) Any notice required to be given by the Board to a licensee may be given by mailing it to him at the address of the last place of practice of which he has notified the Board. (1975, c. 773, s. 1.)

§ 90-300. Renewal of licenses. A licensee shall annually pay to the Board a fee in an amount established by the General Assembly for a renewal of his license. A 30-day grace period shall be allowed after expiration of a license during which the license may be renewed on payment of a fee in an amount established by the General Assembly. The Board may suspend the license of any person who fails to renew his license before the expiration of the 30-day grace period. After expiration of the grace period, the Board may renew such a license upon the payment of a fee in an amount established by the General Assembly. No person who applies for renewal whose license was suspended for failure to renew shall be required to submit to any examination as a condition of renewal. (1975, c. 773, s. 1.)

You will need to provide a statement for why you were providing services in NC with an expired NC license. This will be taken to the monthly board meeting for review. Your license will not be renewed until the Board has reviewed the statement.
