The North Carolina Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (NCBOESLPA) is sharing the following update for informational purposes:
According to an announcement from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has reversed its previous interpretation regarding the billing eligibility of provisional license holders, also referred to as temporary licensees by this Board.
You can read the full ASHA announcement here: CMS Reverses its Interpreation of a “Qualified” SLP – Clinical Fellows Cleared to Bill Medicare
Important Note: As a licensing board established under North Carolina state statute, NCBOESLPA does not have authority over reimbursement matters, including Medicare policies. We strongly encourage licensees to consult directly with CMS or with their organization’s billing department to obtain the most current and accurate information regarding reimbursement and billing practices.
Thank you for your continued commitment to ethical and informed practice.
